Double eyelid products come in two families. Daytime products make a visible crease right now, while the eye is open, and come off at night. Nighttime products are used while you sleep and are designed so that the crease shows up during the day without anything on the lid. Which one fits depends on what you want: a crease for tonight, or a crease that is still there after you take the product off.

At a glance

Product When worn How it works Suits Watch for
Eyelid glue Day Liquid adhesive sticks the skin to itself to form a fold Quick crease with makeup Shine, residue, pulling on the skin at removal
Single or double-sided tape strips Day An adhesive strip props the lid skin into a fold Cheap, available everywhere, easy to learn Visible edges, adhesive on the lid all day
Fiber strips Day A stretched fiber presses a line into the lid Thinner lids, people who want an invisible line Takes practice; can sit too deep if the lid is heavy
Night eyelid glue Night Applied before sleep, washed off in the morning People who want nothing on the lid in the daytime Same careful removal as daytime glue
Nighttime tape system (Optifold) Night F-tape guides the crease path; N-tape supports the fold while the eye is closed Practicing one chosen crease every night, including uneven pairs Needs a nightly routine and accurate placement

If you want a crease today

Daytime glue, tape and fiber all do what they promise: a visible fold within a minute. They are inexpensive and many people use them every day for years. Two things are worth knowing. First, the crease exists while the product is on; take it off and the lid goes back to its own fold. Second, the real cost is the removal habit. Pulling glue or tape off thin eyelid skin every evening is what people are thinking of when they ask whether tape makes eyelids sag. We go through what actually stretches the lid in Does eyelid tape make your eyelids sag?

If you want nothing on your lid in the daytime

Nighttime products move the work to the hours you are asleep. Night glue is painted on before bed and washed off in the morning. A nighttime tape system like Optifold uses two tapes with different jobs: the F-tape is placed along the crease path you want to practice, on gently extended skin, and the N-tape goes on second to support the fold while the eye is closed. You wear both for about 8 to 9 hours and remove them in the morning, N-tape first. Because the aim is to repeat the same fold every night, accurate placement matters more than strong adhesive. How the routine works, and what to expect after removal, is in Daytime vs. nighttime double eyelid tape.

Choosing

Can you combine them?

People sometimes use a daytime product for a special day while running a nighttime routine. That is fine as long as you do not stack products on the lid at the same time and you remove the daytime product gently in the evening. What does not work is sleeping in a daytime strip and expecting it to behave like a nighttime system; we explain why in Can you sleep with eyelid tape on?

Ready to try a nighttime routine? Start with the instructions and the assessment, or go straight to the tape system.

Other brands' wear times and removal steps should be checked on their own instruction pages; this comparison describes product categories, not specific products.
