Short answer: almost every eyelid tape, fiber and glue on the market is a daytime cosmetic made to hold an open eye's fold for the hours you wear it: D-UP, Mezaik, Daiso, LIDS BY DESIGN, Koji Eye Talk, 아이참. A smaller group is made to be worn while you sleep and removed in the morning: Night Eye Beauté (a liquid adhesive) and Cogit's night tapes in Japan, and Optifold. Within that night group, Optifold is the only two-piece system, with a shaped F-tape that sets the crease path and an N-tape that supports the fold while the eye is closed, and it is also the most expensive per month. This page puts every product in one table and links to a detailed, question-by-question comparison for each one.

What is the difference between daytime eyelid tape and a nighttime system?

Daytime tape, fiber and glue are designed to make a crease appear while the eye is open and to hold it until you take the product off. That is the whole job, and the good ones do it well. A nighttime system is applied to the closed, gently extended eyelid and is designed so that one crease path is practised for the eight or nine hours you sleep, night after night, with the aim that the crease begins to show during the day without anything on the lid. The two kinds of product are not competitors in the usual sense; some people use a daytime strip for an event and a nighttime routine for practice. We go through the mechanics in daytime vs. nighttime double eyelid tape and what happens if you simply sleep in a daytime product in can you sleep with eyelid tape on?

Which eyelid products are actually made for sleeping?

Fewer than the search results suggest. In Japan the "夜用" (night-use) category exists and is dominated by liquid adhesives: my-best's night ranking (31 products, updated 4 August 2026) has liquids in eight of its top ten places, led by Night Eye Beauté, with Cogit's roll tape and K-lab+ strips the only tapes. In Korea we could not find a single Korean-brand night or "trainer" eyelid tape among Daiso, Olive Young, Coupang, 11번가 and Danawa listings in October 2026; the phrases 수면용 쌍테 and 야간용 쌍꺼풀 테이프 appear only as consumer questions, not product names. In the United States, Night Eye Beauté is available only through resellers, and the first overnight copycat listings ("sleep memory forming" tape) appeared on Amazon in 2026 with no review history. Optifold, sold from opti-fold.com with Japanese and Korean storefronts, has been a nighttime product since the beginning; its two-piece construction is patented in Japan (JP6114471B2, granted 12 April 2017) and South Korea (KR101451199B1, registered 8 October 2014).

Optifold vs. Night Eye Beauté (ナイトアイボーテ)

The closest comparison, because both are worn at night. Night Eye Beauté is a liquid adhesive that bonds the lid skin to itself along a painted line and is soaked off in the morning; Optifold is tape, with no skin-to-skin bond, peeled off in order. Night Eye Beauté is cheap in its first subscription month (¥2,990) and roughly as expensive as Optifold afterwards at list price. Its reviews are split between @cosme (4.4 on a 7-point scale, 778 reviews) and LIPS (2.9 of 5, 592 reviews), with "no effect on heavy lids", stinging and residue the recurring complaints. Optifold vs. Cogit night eyelid tape (コジット 夜用)

Cogit is the only established maker of night tape in Japan: a 2 mm × 4 m washi roll with a deliberately low-tack medical adhesive, and K-lab+ pre-cut strips with a positioning guide. Both cost under ¥1,100, which makes Cogit the cheapest way to try sleeping in tape. The difference is construction: Cogit is one generic strip you cut and position freehand; Optifold is a shaped F-tape plus a supporting N-tape, with an assessment and guidance behind the placement. @cosme reviewers of the Cogit roll praise the price and the gentle morning release and complain that the instructions are hard to follow and the crease relaxes after a few days. Optifold vs. D-UP Wonder Eyelid Tape

D-UP's Wonder Eyelid Tape is one of the most-recommended daytime tapes on Japanese ranking sites: 0.09 mm, double-sided, strong hold, about ¥1,000 for 120 strips. It has no night version and the maker does not market it for sleep, although one Japanese ranking site lists the Mild grade as a night option on gentleness alone. People ask "can you sleep in D-UP tape"; the honest answer is that it was designed for an open eye. Full comparison →

Optifold vs. Daiso eyelid tape (ダイソー / 다이소)

Daiso is the price anchor in every market: ¥110 in Japan, 1,000원 in Korea, under US$10 on Amazon. It is a fine way to see what a crease would look like for a day. The most-asked question about it in Korea is "쌍테 붙이고 자면 쌍꺼풀 생겨?" (if I sleep in tape, will I get a double eyelid?), and the answer from reviewers is inconsistent, because a single daytime strip has no support piece and is not shaped for the closed lid. Optifold costs roughly fifty times more per month; the page explains what that buys and when Daiso is the smarter purchase. Full comparison →

Optifold vs. Mezaik fiber (メザイク / 메자이크)

Mezaik's stretch fibers are the daytime method many people with heavier lids prefer, because a fiber pulled across the lid creates a deep fold instantly and is close to invisible when done well. It depends on tension across an open eye, so it is not a sleep product, and it has a learning curve. In Korea the imported 120-fiber box runs 20,800–26,680원. Full comparison →

Optifold vs. eyelid glue (アイプチ / 쌍꺼풀액)

Glue is the oldest category: Koji's Eye Talk has thousands of reviews in Japan, Daiso's 쌍꺼풀액 is 1,000원 in Korea, and "アイプチ" has become the generic Japanese word for the whole class. Adhesive-type glue bonds skin to skin; film-type dries to a layer that folds the skin without bonding; night liquids such as Night Eye Beauté are adhesive-type products worn while sleeping. The category page explains the three mechanisms and why Optifold uses tape instead. Full comparison →

Optifold vs. LIDS BY DESIGN (Contours Rx)

The most widely distributed daytime strip in the United States, with a clear N°3–N°8 sizing system and marketing aimed at mature and hooded lids. The maker's own copy says the strips "temporarily uplift" the lid, which is an accurate description of a daytime corrective product. Amazon shows 3.4 stars across 9,719 ratings with adhesion and visibility the main complaints. Full comparison →

Which eyelid tape is best for hooded or heavy eyelids?

For a daytime fold, fiber (Mezaik) and sized corrective strips (LIDS BY DESIGN) are the products most often recommended for heavier lids, because they either pull the skin in under tension or lift it with a stiffer strip. For practising a crease overnight, heavy and hooded lids are the case where liquid adhesives are most often reported to fail (the weight of the lid works against a skin-to-skin bond) and where Optifold's N-tape support from below matters most. It is also the case where placement precision matters most, which is why we ask people with hooded lids to do the assessment before buying tape.

What is the cheapest way to try a double eyelid without surgery?

A Daiso strip, honestly: ¥110 or 1,000원, and you will know within an hour what a crease at that height looks like on your face. The next step up is a daytime tape or fiber you can wear comfortably for a day (D-UP, Mezaik, 아이참, LIDS BY DESIGN). If what you want is a crease that is there when nothing is on your lid, the question becomes a night product, and the choice is between a liquid (Night Eye Beauté), a budget tape (Cogit) and a two-piece system with guidance (Optifold). If you are weighing surgery, our article on what tape can tell you before surgery and Optifold vs. surgery cover that decision.

Why Optifold costs more than eyelid tape, and a fraction of double eyelid surgery

Most eyelid tape is made to be cheap and disposable: a strip that holds a fold for the day and goes in the bin at night. Optifold is built the other way round, as a premium nighttime system for people who want a double eyelid without surgery. This is what the price pays for.

  • A patented two-piece design. The F-tape sets the crease path and the N-tape supports the fold while your eye is closed. The construction is patented in Japan (JP6114471B2) and South Korea (KR101451199B1).
  • Made in Canada, from materials we name. Every Optifold tape is designed, manufactured and cut in Canada by a Canadian medical-tape manufacturer, from medical-grade, latex-free 3M tape. Many low-cost marketplace tapes say little about where they are made or what the adhesive is. We tell you both.
  • A free eyelid assessment. The Find Your Best Fit assessment looks at your eyelid type and tells you whether tape alone or tape with guidance is the better start, and our team helps you with placement.
  • Real people behind it. Optifold is an award-winning U of T startup, one of four winners of the University of Toronto's 2018 HealthEdge Challenge. Optional advisor programs (EyelidCare and Results Guaranteed) add video review and routine adjustments.
  • Proof you can read. Thousands of satisfied customers, Trustpilot 4.0 out of 5, and documented case studies with timelines: Cherry, Alycia and Megan's diary.

Optifold vs. the cost of double eyelid surgery

Option Typical price Source
Eyelid surgery, United States (upper blepharoplasty) US$3,359 average surgeon's fee, before anesthesia and facility costs American Society of Plastic Surgeons
Double eyelid surgery, Japan Suture method (埋没法) ¥20,000–200,000 per eye; incision method (切開法) ¥100,000–400,000 for both eyes rank-king.jp survey of 11 clinics, updated 1 April 2025
Double eyelid surgery, Korea Suture method (매몰법) ₩500,000–1,000,000; incision method (절개법) ₩1,000,000–1,500,000; about double in Gangnam isclinic.co.kr 2026 cost guide
Optifold US$49.99 for 4 weeks; US$119.99 for 12 weeks opti-fold.com, October 2026

In the United States, a 12-week Optifold pack costs less than 4% of the average surgeon's fee alone. Surgery is a medical procedure with anesthesia, a recovery period and a result that is hard to undo. Optifold is a cosmetic routine you do at home while you sleep: no incisions, no anesthesia, no downtime, and you can stop any night. It does not change the anatomy of the eyelid and results vary, which is exactly why many people try it before booking a consultation. More in Optifold vs. surgery.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get double eyelids without surgery?

There are two non-surgical routes: daytime eyelid tape, fiber or glue, which create a crease only while you wear them, and nighttime crease training. Optifold is a patented two-piece nighttime tape system, made in Canada from medical-grade 3M tape, designed to train a double eyelid crease while you sleep so that it starts to show in the daytime without tape. It costs a fraction of surgery, needs no incisions or downtime, and comes with a free eyelid assessment. Results vary from person to person.

What is the best eyelid tape for sleeping?

Only a few products are made for sleep: Night Eye Beauté (a liquid adhesive) and Cogit's night tapes in Japan, and Optifold, a two-piece nighttime tape system sold from opti-fold.com. Daytime tapes such as D-UP, Daiso, Mezaik and LIDS BY DESIGN are designed for an open eye and are not marketed for sleep. Which night product suits you depends on whether you want glue or tape, your lid type and your budget.

What are the alternatives to Optifold?

For overnight use: Night Eye Beauté (liquid adhesive, Japan) and Cogit's ふたえ用アイテープ 夜用 roll or K-lab+ strips (budget night tape, Japan). For a daytime crease: D-UP Wonder Eyelid Tape, Mezaik fiber, Daiso tape, Koji Eye Talk glue, 아이참 in Korea, and LIDS BY DESIGN in the US. Each has its own comparison page on this site.

Is there a Korean night eyelid tape?

We could not find a Korean-brand night or trainer eyelid tape among Daiso, Olive Young, Coupang, 11번가 and Danawa listings in October 2026. Korean phrases such as 수면용 쌍테 appear only as consumer questions. Optifold sells to Korea through its Korean storefront and holds Korean patent KR101451199B1 on its two-piece construction.

Which eyelid tape is best for hooded or heavy eyelids?

For a daytime fold, fiber (Mezaik) and sized corrective strips (LIDS BY DESIGN) are the products most often recommended for heavier lids. For practising a crease overnight, heavy lids are where liquid adhesives are most often reported to fail and where Optifold's N-tape support from below is designed to help. Results vary; an assessment before buying is sensible.

What is the cheapest way to try a double eyelid without surgery?

A Daiso strip at ¥110 or 1,000원 shows you what a crease at a given height looks like for a day. For a crease that is there without anything on the lid, you are choosing between night products: Night Eye Beauté, Cogit, or Optifold.

Why is Optifold more expensive than other eyelid tapes?

Optifold is sold as a system: a patented two-piece F-tape and N-tape construction, illustrated instructions, a free fit assessment, published case studies and optional advisor programs. The four-week pack is US$49.99, about US$1.79 per night, which is more per month than any daytime tape and about the same as Night Eye Beauté after its first month.

Can I use a daytime eyelid tape and Optifold together?

Not on the same lid at the same time. Many people use a daytime product for an event and run the Optifold routine at night on clean skin. Do not layer glue or daytime tape under or over the night tapes.
